2021 Trailblazers

Trailblazer awards recognize organizations who show a true commitment to our community through their workplace campaign and are based on participation, per capita gift and average gift. Thank you to these partners who went above and beyond to create a brighter future for children, families and veterans in the 757. Bank of America’s commitment to advancing racial equality and economic opportunity in our community dug even deeper in the midst of crisis. In 2020, they stepped up with a $100,000 grant to help us co-create remote learning sites with our partners so children in our most underserved communities could have a safe place to go during the day. As a result of those sites, parents were able to maintain their jobs without worry of leaving their children unsupervised, and students stayed engaged in school and received extra supports from trained adults to ensure they didn’t fall behind. Bank of America also donated 100,000 masks to Norfolk Public Schools through United Way, just a small portion of the total personal protective equipment and supplies they donated to local partners. For those and so many other reasons, we thank them, and are proud to name Bank of America this year’s Heart of Hampton Roads recipient.
