What We Do

Women United impacts the lives of women and children right here in our community. Our two-generational approach tackles multiple issues facing at-risk women and their families with the goal of moving them out of crisis and into self-sufficiency.

Our nationally-recognized network of women philanthropists unites year after year in an ongoing effort to bring groundbreaking solutions that improve lives. Our over $9 million endowment is the largest of its kind in the country, thanks in part to our 10 for 10 program, which challenges 10 women each year to invest $10,000 in breaking barriers for women and children.

Additionally, we’ve helped launch transformative initiatives based in research and best practices to create change in our community. In 2012, we launched United for Children to align community resources around the success of our children. In 2018, we launched a pilot program called Aspire, which uses a proven coaching model to move moms with children toward financial stability. Given the pilot's success, Women United decided to fund an expansion through 2023 to serve even more women on their path towards self-sufficiency.

Aspire also provided critical data and lessons learned, uncovering a group of women in the community who are ready to take next steps toward economic mobility but need to achieve a higher level of stability before being ready to participate in the rigor of Aspire. As a result, Women United once again led the charge by creating and funding Strive to fill this gap. Strive, which launched in July 2021, will serve women for 12-18 months and provide intensive coaching specifically focused on helping them reach housing and employment stability so they can move on to Aspire if they choose.
