African American Leadership Giving Initiative
Tied To Greatness - Mentoring Event | Print |

CrowdYoung men today need positive male role models. On May 8, United Way of South Hampton Roads African American Leadership Giving Initiative (AALGI) hosted Tied to Greatness to promote mentoring in our community.

Congressman Bobby Scott; Reginald Corinaldi, Financial Securities Management Group; Maurice Jones, The Virginian Pilot; Chan Tharpe, Bank of America; LaShawn Merrit; 2008 Olympic Gold Medallist; Michael Massie, Attorney; Alvin Keels, Sports Agent; Wil LaVeist, Author, Journalist; and Bruce Smith, NFL Great and Developer all spoke to over 600 adult males and young men at the event.

The AALGI researched and sponsored this national program in South Hampton Roads. United Way Community Partners The Up Center and Seton Youth Shelters were on hand to forge lasting mentoring partnerships with among the attendees.

The African American Leadership Giving Initiative is designed to celebrate, recognize, and align African American donors, who contribute $1,000 or more, with the United Way Community Impact mission. Through this initiative, members will have the opportunity to see the impact that their financial support and volunteerism have on community issues.
