Nearly one in six people in the United States lacked insurance for all of 2006. The uninsured are less likely to recieve appropriate medical care including routine checkups, trauma due to auto crashes, and hospitalization.
Health Care costs are likely to be a major issue in the comming elections:
"A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center for People and the Press in
January 2008 found that 69 percent of respondents felt reducing health
care costs should be a top priority for the president and Congress,
while 54 percent believed that providing insurance to the uninsured is
a top priority" -Healthcare Coverage in America
