Help Us Allocate Donations to Our Agencies
United Way of South Hampton Roads needs passionate, committed volunteers to help decide how to distribute 2014 donations to our partner agencies. This is not a typical volunteer opportunity, but it is just as important as any other opportunity. Please thoroughly read the description below.
Last year, 63 volunteers spent more than 1,200 hours making site visits, meeting with agency staff and their boards, and reviewing program outcomes to ultimately determine the United Way funding recommendations to our Board. Activities take place during normal business hours. The largest time commitment is in February through April. Volunteers will make agency site visits and provide funding recommendations.
We’re looking for people with backgrounds in human services management, finance and administration, legal, health, education, or a combination of other relevant skills and expertise. Previous experience with nonprofits, especially UWSHR, also helps. Based on your background, you may participate on one of the following panels:
• Financial stability
• Western Tidewater
Again, we're looking for volunteers who will make site visits, meet with agency staff and their boards, and review program outcomes to help us determine funding recommendations to present to the United Way board.
There’s also an opportunity for volunteers with a strong financial background to help review agency financial statements. This takes place in January/February and doesn’t require site visits.
If you would like to be considered as a community solutions volunteer, please send your resume to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will review your resume and get back to you. Thank you for your interest!'
If you have any questions, please email them to: email@example.com
United Way's Annual Day of Caring
Day of Caring was established in 1991 to promote the spirit of volunteerism, increase awareness of local human service organization and demonstrate how people working together for the common good can accomplish great things.
We match local volunteers in the South Hampton Roads community to nonprofit organizations and schools to complete tasks such as landscaping, painting, gardening and direct client support. Participating in Day of Caring promotes workplace unity, builds morale and shows leadership in the community.
