Over One Million Reasons to Say Thanks!
United Way of South Hampton Roads would like to recognize Sentara and its employees for reaching their $1 million goal for the 2011-2012 campaign and becoming the first company to do so!
Ray Darcey, 2011 United Way Chair, led several coordinators in baseball themed fundraisers and events to raise money for our agency partners in the areas of education, financial stability, and health in South Hampton Roads. David Bernd, Sentara Healthcare CEO got into the game as well, lending his likeness to a cardboard cutout in a baseball uniform to help inspire others.
Along with donations, Sentara employees also gave their time at our 20th Annual Day of Caring in September with 175 volunteers participating in 14 job sites across South Hampton Roads. One team even worked to build a Habitat for Humanity home for a fellow colleague, Kiska Morris a Rheumatology Secretary at Sentara Leigh.
“When I think about it I get emotional,” said Morris. “For a long time I wanted to own my home, somewhere I could raise my boys and take pride in something; to make it a safe and healthy place filled with love.”
The Sentara Healthcare system is comprised of 10 acute care hospitals, including 7 in Hampton Roads, 1 in Northern Virginia, and 2 in the Blue Ridge region, advanced imaging centers, nursing and assisted-living centers, outpatient campuses, 2 home health/hospice agencies, a 3,680-provider medical staff, and three medical groups with 618 providers. Sentara also offers medical transport ambulances and Nightingale, the first air ambulance serving Hampton Roads. Optima Health is the insurance arm of Sentara Healthcare and serves approximately 436,000 members in the state of Virginia with Commercial, Individual and Medicaid plans.
Thank you for all of your support from the Sentara team! With your contributions you help make the difference in the education of a child, in the financial stability of a vulnerable family, and in the health of our community.
Thank you, you LIVE UNITED!
