WLC Endowment Fund

The WLC program is especially appealing to me because it serves the needs of women and children.  It is a challenge to review and assess grant requests…………..there are so many deserving requests.  As a natural consequence, I realize the importance of WLC funding!

-Ann Crenshaw, Funding Council, WLC Member

The WLCEF seeks to fund programs that provide solutions to root causes of poverty for women and their

Families. Funding areas include programs that address self-esteem, self-sufficiency and long-term economic security for low to moderate income women and their families.

Since 2005, the WLC has funded 34 grants totaling $171,500, specifically funding local programs that build financial security, improve career and educational opportunities, and provide access to health care for women and their families.

Below lists the grants approved in 2010-11.

Salvation Army’s Hope Village received a $7,000 grant to support continuing education programs at trade schools and local colleges and universities.  This funding may be used for books, tuition, supplies, parking or transportation.  Some of the career programs being considered include pharmacy tech, education, Medical program, Cosmetology School and Social Work at ODU. This grant will help Hope Village clients reach their education goals, ultimately providing the tools needed to obtain stable employment and become financially secure.
